I HAVE HEARING DIFFICULTIES
Sensorineural hearing loss
This is caused by damage to the sensitive hair cells inside the ear or damage to the auditory nerve.
Conductive Hearing Loss
This happens when sounds are unable to pass from your outer ear to your inner ear, often because of a blockage such as earwax or glue ear.
Mixed hearing Loss
This is a combination of both conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. This type of hearing loss may be treated most successfully with a combination of a hearing device and medical assistance.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST
COMFORTS HEARING SERVICES
Take a look at our services below.
If you have difficulties with your hearing, or suspect any changes or deterioration, it is beneficial to get this checked by having a professional hearing test. At Comforts Hearing, our audiologists have a wealth of knowledge and experience to determine your current hearing ability. This is completed by a full and comprehensive hearing assessment being carried out which includes many varying elements of testing hearing. By completing an assessment of your hearing needs, we can work together to find your best possible solution.
At Comforts Hearing, we use various testing equipment to get an accurate picture of your hearing needs:
- Pure Tone Audiometry - Pure tone testing (audiogram) -- For this test, you wear earphones attached to the audiometer. Pure tones of a specific frequency and volume are delivered to one ear at a time. You are asked to signal when you hear a sound.
- Bone Conduction testing – Audiologists use this type of testingwhen something, such as wax or fluid, is blocking your outer or middle ear. For this test, the audiologist will put a small device behind your ear or on your forehead. The sounds sent through this device cause your skull to gently vibrate.
- Speech Perception testing – This is a diagnostic test that assesses speech discrimination using single words. It involves listening to words and repeating what was heard to the audiologist who records the results. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
All of above testing elements help to give us a clear picture of your hearing needs, along with an accurate idea of which hearing instrument best suits you. Once we’ve identified your areas of concern, we’ll work together to ensure we get to the best possible solution for you.
How we can help
Comforts Hearing offer the safest and most effective type of wax removal available – micro suction ear wax removal. This is when ear wax is removed from the ear using gentle suction with a low pressure suction machine and fine sterile probe.
The procedure is performed by our trained clinicians.
This is a completely safe and comfortable way of removing wax, giving you instant relief from any problems you may have been experiencing.
Benefits of micro suction wax removal
Unlike ear syringing or ear irrigation, no water is used to flush the ear canal. Instead the procedure is performed ‘dry’ which helps in significantly reducing the risk of infection and/or accidentally ‘pumping’ ear wax deeper into the ear canal.
Unlike ear syringing and ear irrigation, micro suction wax removal can be performed in people who have a perforated eardrum or grommet, mastoid cavity or cleft palate, in addition to any foreign object that may be lodged inside the ear canal.
Important tips before your visit:
It's always a good idea to use olive oil drops for a few days prior to your appointment. This is to soften any wax in the ear, especially if you are aware of a longstanding issue with solid ear wax build-up.
Your appointment will last around 30 minutes per ear (60 mins for both ears), however, in some cases, it can be much shorter than this. We endeavour to removal all ear wax at the very first appointment, however, if this isn't possible we will see you again free of charge.
Wax Removal Prices
One ear wax removal £30
Two ears wax removal £40
This service is for adults aged 18 years and over.
When going out our daily life’s our ears are constantly under attack from sounds at varying levels. At times the sounds can be so extreme that they can damage your hearing. Exposure to extreme loud sounds can immediately damage your hearing. Sounds over time exposure to loud noise can slowly affect your hearing.
85dB is the threshold level at which your hearing can become damaged over time. Sounds under 85dB are safe to listen to – you don't need to use any hearing protection
At Comforts Hearing we can offer a range of certified personliased electronic noise suppressors, custom-made noise plugs, ear guards and earplugs. Aside from hearing protection instruments, there are many steps you can take in order to try and further protect your hearing, see our advice page for more on this.
At Comforts Hearing, we use very latest in digital hearing aids. They come in a wide variety of models, that have different levels of the most state-of-the-art technology. Our independence enables us to draw from a breadth of hearing aid suppliers. This ensures we can provide you with a tailor-made personalised service with a balanced opinion on the best solution for your hearing needs.
Behind The Ear (BTE)
The hearing aid consists of a hard plastic case worn behind the ear and connected to a plastic earmold that fits inside the outer ear. The electronic parts are held in the casing behind the ear. The sound travels from the hearing aid through the earmold and into the ear.
These are a type of open-fit hearing aid that use a thin plastic “micro” tube that extends from the body of the hearing aid (this is housed behind the ear) over the outer ear and into the ear canal. A small, soft tip sits inside the ear canal without sealing it. They can be worn comfortably behind the ear.
In-the-ear hearing aids (ITEs) includes all hearing aids that are worn entirely in the ear (rather than behind it), including in-the-canal (ITC), Completely-in-Canal (CIC) and invisible-in-canal (IIC).
These hearing aids are worn completely in your ear canal and are a discreet option. CIC hearing aids are custom fit to your unique anatomy using an ear canal impression to achieve maximum comfort and sound quality.
These hearing aids are the smallest custom hearing aids that are available. This kind of hearing aid is designed and sculpted to fit entirely inside your ear canal. IIC hearing aids usually have extraction cords fitted to help you to insert and remove them from your ear comfortably.
We supply hearing aids from a wide range of providers at the forefront of hearing aid technology:

Is it safe to have ear wax removed on a regular basis?
Micro suction wax removal is achieved by latching onto the wax and pulling it out. Because the eardrum is very sensitive and delicate this is the safest and quickest way to remove wax. This means micro-suction can be carried out as often as is necessary.
Micro suction is quickest and easiest when the ear has been treated for one or two days prior to removal, we would recommend you treat your ears with oil prior to your appointment.

CONSENT AND INFORMATION
Your ear wax removal will be carried out by a trained clinician working to industry standard protocols. Wax removal may be done via micro-suction, irrigation /syringing, and / or dry tool extraction – whichever the clinician deems most appropriate based on the wax you present and your answers to this form. Incidents during ear wax removal are very uncommon, however: Minor complications that can occur which are deemed acceptable include: minor nicks or scratches to the ear canal which can also lead to minor bleeding, soreness, mild discomfort, and short-term ringing in the ear (tinnitus). To minimise such risk please immediately notify the clinician of any discomfort or sensitivity to increased sound level. Ear wax removal can cause slight dizziness in certain circumstances - the client should inform the clinician if they feel dizzy and the procedure should be paused until the client feels stable. More serious risk of damage to the ear canal or ear drum can occur if the client does not remain adequately still. Clients should inform the clinician of any discomfort or likely sudden movements, for example if likely to sneeze or cough. All equipment is sterilised or is single use only to keep infection risk to a minimum; however, there is always a risk that infection can set in once the client leaves the premises.
